Welcome! With summer just around the corner, the global LGBTQ community looks to mark another year of Pride this June with various celebrations and activism, albeit in different forms than years prior. The challenges of the past year have only underscored the importance of “community” in all contexts; across neighborhoods, nations, and the world. Unity can help lead us through even the toughest of times, and our Pride 2021 theme, “Bridge to the Future”, reflects this shared sense of optimism and progress. In this spirit, OUT@Morningstar has selected several LGBTQ-focused charities to highlight in 2021 that address some of these various challenges. During the month of June, Wunderqueers will be spotlighting Rainbow Railroad. Rainbow Railroad is a global not-for-profit organization that helps LGTBQI+ people facing persecution based on their sexual orientation, gender identity and sex characteristics. In a time when there are more displaced people than ever before, LGBTQI+ people are uniquely vulnerable due to systemic, state-enabled homophobia and transphobia. These factors either displace them in their own country or prevent them from escaping harm. As a result of Rainbow Railroad, more LGBTQI+ individuals will be able to access lives free from persecution.
