EDUCATION FOR 100 KIDS IN UGANDA SUMMARY Today, education remains an inaccessible right for millions of children around the world. When a child doesn’t have access to a school it impacts every part of their life - from worldviews to life expectancy to likelihood of violence and prevalence of disease. A school is a spark which begins to shape it all. CHALLENGE "Smile for Africa foundation" has the courage to realize the dream of buying land and build a school and orphanage for around 100 kids in rural Uganda. Today the kids are living and studying in constructions, which can hardly be called “house” and “school”. In conditions of misery and constant morbidity the kids could not receive good education, which they deserve. On the other hand, the foundation will build an orphanage house, which will improve the living conditions and will give hope for a better life. LONG-TERM IMPACT Giving children the opportunity to explore and study is an important first step to their independence. Education is fundamental to sustainable development, it is a powerful driver for reducing poverty and improving health. Giving kids knowledge is giving them a better FUTURE.

Overcomers on the Move is a peer-led 501c3 nonprofit organization. Our mission is to combat human trafficking, addiction, and homelessness through peer-led supportive services. What sets us apart is that we stand in the gap, we specialize in peer support, and we meet people where they are. Presently our board consists of peers and professionals who advocate for vulnerable populations being affected by human trafficking, addiction, and homelessness. The Mary B. Westbrook Legacy Scholarship will provide academic scholarships to graduating high school seniors from the Washington, DC Metropolitan area who have demonstrated a financial need and have maintained high academic performance.

Box is once again partnering with Team4Tech and CARE Cambodia to send 11 Boxers on a project to Ratanak Kiri, a rural region of Cambodia, to provide access to quality learning to marginalized ethnic minority students. The goal is to motivate and empower local teachers and students in coding and robotics and to share the work with government officials to inspire the integration of technology across even more rural schools of Cambodia!

Homelessness is a rapidly growing global crisis. Climate change, systemic racism and economic inequality are just a few factors exacerbating this displacement around the world. While this issue is daunting, great work is being done to house those affected and end the damage of this humanitarian crisis. Not only is #SynchronizedSwimming one of the toughest Olympic sports (imagine working out and competing at 100% while holding your breath), it builds tough, STRONG people who will go on to do great things! Synchronized Swimming is considered to be the ULTIMATE team sport! 3. We compete at the National and Junior Olympic level and we are beyond committed! 4. We are a very diverse group of girls age 8 to 18 and have 44 swimmers who speak at least 7 different languages and more than half speak at least 2 languages. 5. Our coaches are VOLUNTEERS! Our head coach, Cheryl Cook has been volunteering more than 20 hours per week for 26+ years! Legit commitment to the sport coming from ALL of our coaches! We want to make synchronized swimming available to all athletes in Central Texas. 2. The East Bay Area Cat Rescue Fund features organizations throughout the SF Bay Area that support various cat rescue and advocacy initiatives. Through their advocacy and on the ground efforts, these East Bay organizations promote cat advocacy and rescue, TNR (Trap Neuter Release) efforts for feral cats, public outreach and education, and more!

Thousands of fires burning across the Amazon rainforest have captured international attention over the past week. Experts point to deforestation as the cause, which is often carried out illegally and which removed over three times as much forest last month as in July 2018. Fires have been reported in the Brazilian states of Amazonas, Rondonia, Para and Mato Grosso. At least 305 indigenous groups live in the Amazon that depend on the forest and rivers for food and shelter. But the effects of damage to the Amazon go far beyond Brazil and its neighbors. The area's rainforest generates more than 20% of the world's oxygen and is home to 10% of the world's known biodiversity. The Amazon is referred to as the "lungs of the planet" and plays a major role in regulating the climate. Greenpeace has stated that as the number of fires increase, greenhouse emissions do, too. The world would drastically change if the rainforest were to disappear, with impacts on everything from farms to drinking water. The organizations included in the Fund address immediate measures to combat the current crisis and harm to indigenous communities, as well as long term initiatives to combat climate change and to advocate against pro-development policies that have relaxed the enforcement of laws against deforestation and have encouraged mining and farming across biological reserves and indigenous territories.

Team4Tech Cambodia

This summer, I've had an amazing experience volunteering my time with YCore, a non-profit that brings together young professionals with the common goal of advancing social impact in our local community. The program not only educates and equips us with skills to contribute to the social sector, it also gives us the hands-on experience in building out capacity with local non-profits. It was through YCore that I've been able to support Able Works, an organization that gives young mothers the life skills and financial education necessary to break free from cycles of poverty. Without YCore, I would not have had this opportunity to directly impact our community and because I want YCore to continue being able to help others, I'd like to raise $2,000 this summer to support them. The primary goal of this Team4Tech project in December is to increase student engagement in the STEM fields through access, inspiration, and fun educational activities using robotics and coding! The target beneficiaries are 2,889 adolescents including 1,505 marginalized ethnic minority adolescent girls and boys from the rural province of Ratanak Kiri.

Hurricane Dorian, which hit the northern Bahamas as one of the strongest Atlantic hurricanes on record, has caused extreme destruction on the Grand Bahama and Abaco Islands and has killed at least five people there. Evacuations have been ordered for parts of Florida, Georgia and South Carolina as the Hurricane continues to move northward toward the U.S. Draper and Bright Funds have established the Hurricane Dorian Disaster Response and Recovery Fund, which is comprised of pre-vetted nonprofits providing on-the-ground disaster response in the region. Through a single tax deductible donation to the Fund, you can support multiple organizations’ initiatives to provide short- and long-term response and recovery to those affected by Hurricane Dorian. The composition of nonprofits in this Fund is subject to change as we learn more about the most pressing needs of those affected on the ground.

The Council of Refugee Women in Bulgaria helps all refugees and asylum seekers in the process of their integration in the Bulgarian society. In this sense, the Council is organizing their annual initiative "Welcome to the Bulgarian School", which has the goal of providing equal access to Bulgarian education for the refugee children living in Bulgaria. The campaign is an annual initiative of the Council of Refugee Women in Bulgaria (CRWB) for the duration 15.08.2019 until 30.09.2019. It has the goal to provide equal access to education for refugee children, who start or continue their education in Bulgaria. One of the main functions of CRWB is to support integration through education. Notably, the children are those, who are able to learn Bulgarian language quickly, to make friendships easily, to adapt effectively to a new environment and to identify their meaningful place in our society. These processes are possible only when they are able to attend school on an equal basis with the Bulgarian children.
